Save Status for Android: What the App Does and How to Use It

Save Status (listed on Google Play as Status Saver | Download Status) is a free Android app for keeping WhatsApp status photos and videos after they would normally disappear.
What it does
- Shows photo and video statuses you have already viewed in WhatsApp, in separate Photos and Videos tabs.
- Supports both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business.
- Saves selected statuses to your phone’s gallery.
- Keeps everything you’ve saved in a Saved Status section.
- Includes dark mode and a choice of languages.
What it doesn’t do
- It can’t show statuses you haven’t viewed - and it can’t show statuses that weren’t shared with you. It only works with files WhatsApp has already downloaded to your phone.
- It doesn’t let you view statuses secretly. Viewing happens in WhatsApp, which follows your read-receipt setting.
- It isn’t available for iPhone - iOS doesn’t let apps access WhatsApp’s files.
- It isn’t made by, or affiliated with, WhatsApp or Meta.
Why it asks for folder access
On recent Android versions, apps can’t freely read other apps’ files. The first time you open Save Status, Android asks you to grant access to WhatsApp’s status folder. Without it, the app can’t see the statuses you’ve viewed. The app uses this access only to list those files and copy the ones you choose.
How to save a status with the app
- View the status in WhatsApp.
- Open Save Status and choose WhatsApp or WA Business from the menu.
- Pick the Photos or Videos tab.
- Select the status and tap download.
- Find it in Saved Status or your gallery.
Tips
- Save soon after viewing. WhatsApp clears old status files regularly.
- If a status is missing, open it in WhatsApp again, then return to the app.
- Ask before re-sharing someone else’s content - it’s their photo or video.
