Privacy Policy

This policy applies to the Save Status Android app and to the SaveStatus.com website.

Last updated:

Save Status (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by Karibu Online. This policy explains what information the Save Status Android app (the “App”) and the website SaveStatus.com (the “Site”) collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. If you have questions, email us at [email protected].

Summary

  • Your statuses stay on your phone. The App reads status photos and videos that WhatsApp has already saved on your device and copies the ones you choose to your gallery. We never upload, see or store your statuses, chats, contacts or media.
  • We don’t ask for your name, phone number or email in the App, and there is no account.
  • Third-party services (Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics) collect limited device and usage information to show ads, measure usage and fix crashes.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

1. The Save Status Android app

1.1 Files on your device

To work, the App needs permission to access WhatsApp’s status folder (and the WhatsApp Business status folder, if you choose it) and to save files to your device. On recent Android versions, Android asks you to grant access to that specific folder. The App uses this access only to:

  • list the status photos and videos already stored on your device after you viewed them in WhatsApp;
  • display them inside the App; and
  • copy the items you select to your phone’s storage or gallery.

This processing happens entirely on your device. Status files, their contents and file names are not transmitted to us or to any third party. You can revoke storage access at any time in Android settings; the App will then be unable to show statuses.

1.2 Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob. To deliver, limit, measure and (where permitted) personalise ads, AdMob may collect:

  • your device’s advertising ID (Android Advertising ID);
  • IP address (used to infer approximate location such as country or city);
  • device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, language and app version;
  • ad interactions, such as ad impressions and taps.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the App asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown, using Google’s consent tools. You can change your choice from the App’s settings where available. On any Android device you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalisation, in Settings › Privacy › Ads (or Settings › Google › Ads, depending on your device).

1.3 Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used, for example which screens are opened, how many statuses are saved and which features are popular, so we can improve it. Firebase Analytics collects an app-instance identifier, usage events, device information (model, OS version, language, screen size), app version, approximate location derived from your IP address, and, where enabled, the advertising ID. It does not receive your status files.

1.4 Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

If the App crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends a crash report to help us fix the problem. Reports include the crash stack trace, a Crashlytics installation identifier, device model, OS version, app version, available memory and disk space, and the state of the App at the time of the crash. Crash reports do not include your status files.

1.5 Data collected by the App at a glance

Data sent to Google is encrypted in transit. Google processes it under its own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy, and the Firebase privacy information.

1.6 Other App features

  • Share App, Rate App and More Apps open Android’s share sheet or Google Play. We don’t receive who you share with.
  • Re-sharing a saved status uses Android’s share sheet; the receiving app handles that content under its own policy.
  • Settings such as dark mode and language are stored only on your device.

2. The SaveStatus.com website

  • Server logs. Our web server and network provider (Cloudflare) record technical data such as IP address, browser type, page requested and time. We use these logs to keep the Site secure and working and keep them for a limited time.
  • Download clicks. When you click a Google Play link we count the click and which part of the Site it came from. No IP address or identifier is stored with this count.
  • Browser storage. If you close the app banner on a phone, your browser remembers that choice locally for 7 days. It never leaves your device.
  • Cookies. Visitors receive no cookies from us. Editors receive a strictly necessary login cookie for the admin area.
  • Email. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply.

3. How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

  • provide and maintain the App and the Site;
  • show ads that keep the App free;
  • understand usage and improve features;
  • diagnose crashes and keep the App stable;
  • prevent fraud and abuse; and
  • respond to your requests and comply with the law.

Where the law requires a legal basis (for example under the GDPR), we rely on your consent for personalised ads, and on our legitimate interests for analytics, crash reporting, security and non-personalised ads.

4. Sharing

We share information only with the service providers named above (Google AdMob, Google Firebase and Cloudflare), when required by law, or to protect our rights and users’ safety. We do not sell or rent personal information.

5. Retention

  • Status files: never received by us, so never retained by us.
  • Firebase Analytics: user-level data is kept for the retention period configured in our Google Analytics settings (no longer than 14 months), then aggregated.
  • Crashlytics: crash reports are kept for about 90 days.
  • AdMob: governed by Google’s retention policies.
  • Website logs: kept for a limited time for security, then deleted.

6. International transfers

Google and Cloudflare may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. They use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.

7. Your rights and choices

  • Ads: reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in Android settings.
  • Storage access: revoke it any time in Android settings.
  • Stop all collection: uninstall the App. Files you saved to your gallery remain on your device until you delete them.
  • Access, correction, deletion and objection: depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022, or US state privacy laws), you may have rights over your personal information. Because the App has no accounts, we usually can’t link analytics data to you, but email [email protected] and we will help, including by requesting deletion from our providers where possible.

8. Children

The App and Site are intended for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the Site and for data sent by the App’s Google services. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. Changes

We may update this policy, for example when we add features or change providers. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, notify you in the App.
