How to Save and Archive Your Facebook Stories
Facebook Stories last 24 hours, but you can download them, keep them in a private archive and choose exactly who sees them. Here’s how.

Like WhatsApp Status and Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories disappear from your friends’ feeds after 24 hours. You can still keep them.
Facebook changes menu labels often; if something looks different, look for the same option under the ⋯ menu.
Download a Story while it’s live
- Open your Story from the top of your Feed (Your story).
- Tap ⋯ (More) in the corner.
- Tap Save photo or Save video.
Find old Stories in your Story archive
Facebook can keep a private copy of your Stories after they expire. Only you can see the archive.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap ⋯ next to Edit profile, then tap Archive.
- Choose Story archive.
From there, open a Story and use ⋯ to save or share it again. If your archive is empty, check that the archive is turned on in the Story archive settings (the gear icon).
Choose who sees your Stories
Before you post, tap Privacy (or the gear icon) on the Story editor. Common options:
- Public - anyone on Facebook or Messenger.
- Friends - your Facebook friends (and Messenger contacts, depending on settings).
- Custom - pick specific people.
- You can also hide your Stories from particular people.
Can you save someone else’s Facebook Story?
Facebook doesn’t provide a download button for other people’s Stories. You can react or reply, which starts a Messenger conversation - a good moment to ask if they’ll send you the photo or video. Screenshots are possible for personal use, but respect the person’s privacy and don’t repost without permission.
Sharing between WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook
If your accounts are connected in Meta’s Accounts Center, you may be able to share a Story or status to your other apps automatically. Check the sharing options in the Story editor or in Accounts Center.
